Homework Policy – Epren Academy

Developing Responsibility, Discipline, and Independent Learning

At Epren Academy, we believe that homework is an essential part of the learning process.
It reinforces what has been taught in class, encourages responsibility, and helps pupils develop the self-discipline and study habits needed for lifelong success.

Our Homework Policy reflects our commitment to academic excellence, balance, and the holistic development of every learner.

1. Purpose of Homework

Homework is designed to:

  • Reinforce and consolidate classroom learning

  • Develop independent thinking and time management skills

  • Encourage parental involvement in the child’s learning journey

  • Prepare learners for upcoming lessons, projects, or assessments

  • Foster curiosity, creativity, and research skills

We believe that homework should be meaningful, manageable, and motivating — not a burden, but a bridge between school and home learning.

2. Guiding Principles

  • Homework is set regularly in all key learning areas under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

  • Tasks are age-appropriate and vary by grade level and subject.

  • Teachers ensure that assignments are clearly explained and relevant to current classwork.

  • Parents are encouraged to support, not do, their child’s homework.

  • Time guidelines are observed to ensure pupils have adequate time for rest, family, and play.

3. Suggested Time Guidelines

School LevelApproximate Daily Homework Duration
Pre-Primary (PP1–PP2)10–15 minutes (mainly reading, coloring, or short practice tasks)
Lower Primary (Grades 1–3)20–30 minutes
Upper Primary (Grades 4–6)30–45 minutes
Junior Secondary (Grades 7–9)45–60 minutes
Senior School1–1.5 hours including projects and research

These times are flexible depending on subject load, projects, and individual learner needs.

4. Roles and Responsibilities

Teachers

  • Assign purposeful homework that supports learning objectives.

  • Check, record, and give feedback promptly.

  • Communicate with parents if homework is consistently incomplete or poorly done.

Learners

  • Record homework accurately in diaries or planners.

  • Complete assignments neatly, on time, and independently.

  • Ask for clarification when needed.

Parents & Guardians

  • Provide a quiet, well-lit study space at home.

  • Supervise and encourage completion of homework.

  • Communicate with teachers about any challenges affecting homework completion.

5. Late or Missing Homework

We teach pupils the value of accountability.
Repeated failure to complete homework without a valid reason will lead to:

  • A discussion with the class teacher or head of section.

  • Notification to parents.

  • Additional study support or guidance sessions.

6. Weekend & Holiday Assignments

Weekend tasks focus on light revision or creative projects.
During holidays, pupils receive structured assignments and reading lists to keep their minds active while enjoying time with family.

7. Balance and Wellbeing

At Epren Academy, we value balance.
Homework is important, but rest, play, family, and spiritual growth are equally vital to a child’s development.
Teachers plan homework thoughtfully to avoid overload and ensure holistic wellbeing.

Our Commitment

Homework at Epren Academy is more than repetition — it’s a tool for growth, reflection, and self-mastery.
Through consistent practice, guided support, and discipline, our pupils learn to take ownership of their learning — modelling excellence in and out of the classroom.
